Good to know
Pets are welcome, so please note that this is not an allergy-free accommodation.
The food items delivered to the apartment are lactose-free.
Guests have access to a spacious free parking area, a private entrance, and personal keys for everyone staying in the apartment.
The train station is within a short walking distance, and the village centre is approximately 850 metres away.
The house has natural ventilation. Guests can adjust the room temperature themselves, and windows can be opened when needed. During summer, the bedrooms also have fans and the apartment includes a cooling unit.
Please note that our accommodation is not accessible. The apartment is reached via stairs, although the staircase is wide and has handrails.

Arrival Day
Vierula non-alcoholic raspberry sparkling drinks and a light evening snack will be waiting for you in the apartment.
The apartment is normally available from 5 PM onwards.
House tour
You will stay in our historic merchant house built in 1939. The entire top floor of the house is reserved for your group and is home to the cosy Huoneistomajoitus Unelma. On Friday evening, you may join a storytelling house tour starting at 5:30 PM and discover this historic merchant house and the private spaces of its residents.
Alternatively, you may choose a guided garden tour in the grandmother’s garden surrounding the house. The garden tour can also be arranged before your Salmela day or on your departure day.
There will be a touch of surprise as well, as I have prepared something that will surely lead you into interesting conversations during the evening.
Art center Day
Päivän aikana ehditte tutustua Salmelaan ja nauttia kirkonkylän kauniista miljööstä ja palveluista.
During the day, you will have plenty of time to explore Taidekeskus Salmela and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere and services of the village. The art exhibitions are open daily from 6 June to 15 August 2026 between 11 AM and 6 PM. Salmela is located approximately 4 kilometres from Unelma.
Within walking distance from Salmela, you will also find our beautiful wooden church and the historic Iso-Pappila museum area.

Local boutiques Some of my personal favourites are: Puoti Suerte (a little boutique shop), Tarjan Muotipuoti (a fashion shop for women), Makasiinin Puoti & Kahvila (a unique café and boutique next to the train station).
Summer Theatre? Mäntyharjun Kesäteatteri (summer theater) is located near Art center Salmela.
Nilkko Taproom microbrewery: Nilkko is a cosy small brewery taproom worth visiting, and it is within a short walking distance from Unelma.
Please note that many local restaurants close fairly early in the evening during summer, often between 5 PM and 7 PM. Fortunately, Mäntyharju has good grocery stores and Unelma includes a spacious kitchen.
Departure Day
On your departure day, you still have time to explore a few sights or enjoy a peaceful moment in our garden.
Café Walk: Visit Makasiinin Puoti & Kahvila (a unique café and boutique next to the train station), which is within walking distance from Unelma. The local flea market Mäntykirppis is often open daily during summer, and you may discover unique Finnish design treasures to take home.
Museums: Did you know there are a total of 10 different museums in Mäntyharju? If you travel south, stop by Miekankoski cafe and visit the rafting museum.
Ryönänhovi garden Located about a 15-minute drive north from Unelma, this charming garden is open during summer for a small entrance fee. Please check opening hours in advance.
And of course, don’t forget to take home some products from Vierula Farm — either from their shop in the village centre or directly from the farm itself.
Check-out is normally at 12 PM. Feel free to ask if you would like to stay a little longer.

At Unelma, you can create your own oil painting as a memory of your stay for a small additional fee. We also have a massage studio on the first floor of the house, and it is possible to reserve the traditional wood-heated sauna.
