Step Into a House Where the Past Can Still Be Felt
A Storytelling Tour in a Historic Merchant’s House
Welcome to a guided tour of our merchant’s house, completed in 1939, whose walls have witnessed everyday life, celebrations, years of scarcity, entrepreneurship, and strong women across several generations.
This is not an ordinary house viewing – it is a warm journey through time into our life, our home, and the fascinating building history of the house.
Duration & Prices
Approx. 1 hour
€15 per person when booked with accommodation
Small private groups: €100 (max. 4 people)
Private tours are also available by separate arrangement.
What Will You Experience?
We walk through the rooms of the house and pause to hear stories of the people who lived here, worked here, and built their future within these walls.
During the tour, you will discover:
what life was like in a merchant’s house
how daily life worked before modern conveniences
the role of women in the home, work, and decision-making
the different decades and changing life of the house
details guests might otherwise miss, such as:
an indoor well, food cellar, wood-heated sauna
and a traditional water boiler
Our home
Private Spaces & Authentic Atmosphere
The tour also includes parts of the current private living areas of the house. In this way, past and present life meet in a unique and personal setting.
This house is not a museum – it is still a living home.
That is what makes the atmosphere so genuine, warm, and memorable.
Merchant’s House Stories
Women, Resilience & Changing Times
During the tour, you will hear stories of the women who have lived in this house through different eras.
This is one of the few remaining merchant’s houses in the area, from a time when Mäntyharju was an important local centre of trade.
If you are interested in history, self-sufficiency, preparedness, traditional life skills, and how people adapted to changing times, this tour may pleasantly surprise you.
